The short version
We do not use advertising cookies and we do not sell data. We would like to use analytics so we can see which articles people actually read, and we ask before we do. If you refuse, nothing analytics-related runs and we remember your refusal.
Cookies and similar technologies
"Cookies" is the common name, but the rules cover anything stored on or read from your device. Some of what we use is browser storage rather than a cookie. The table lists everything, whichever form it takes.

Strictly necessary items do not require consent, because without them the site cannot remember the choice you made. Everything in the analytics category runs only after you agree.
Something we cannot switch off for you
Article images load from images.unsplash.com. That means Unsplash receives your IP address and the address of the page you are reading, simply because your browser fetches the picture. No cookie is set by us and nothing is stored on your device, but it is a request to another company and you should know about it. It happens whether or not you allow analytics, because the images are part of the article rather than tracking.
Changing your mind
Use the button below at any time. It clears your stored choice, deletes the analytics identifiers we can reach, and reloads the page with analytics off. You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser settings, which has the same effect.
